The Fresno Hispanic Scholarship Fund is accepting applications through Sept. 30 for the 2008-09 academic year.

The fund was formed in 1988 to provide financial support to Hispanic students entering higher education institutions, said Ofelia Gamez, director of the College Assistance Migrant Program at California State University, Fresno and the fund president this year.

“Funds raised are equally distributed to Fresno State and the five campuses within the State Center Community College District,” she said, for by each institution’s financial aid office.

The organization has provided nearly $1 million in scholarships. The fund’s board of directors is composed of community leaders in various fields and professions.
