The Center for Disability Innovation at California State University, Fresno will hold its inaugural Western Region Disability Conference on Sept. 26 and 27 at the Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center.

Among the speakers will be Kim Peek, who inspired the character of Raymond Babbit played by Dustin Hoffman in the movie “Rain Man,” and Claudia Gordon, senior policy adviser with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The conference, “Opening Doors, Building Bridges,” combines national experts, professional panels and student presentations on topics ranging from emergency preparedness and disability to assistive technology.

The Rehabilitation Counseling Program, which is part of the Counseling, Special Education and Rehabilitation Department in the Kremen School of Education and Human Resource at Fresno State, is partnering with the Center for Independent Living Fresno to co-sponsor the conference.
