“Shiloh Rules” focuses a comedic spotlight on Civil War re-enactors in the second University Theatre production of the 2008-09 season at California State University, Fresno.

Performances will be Oct. 31-Nov. 2 and Nov. 4-8 at the Dennis and Cheryl Woods Theatre in the university’s Speech Arts Building.

“Shiloh Rules” was written by Doris Baizley about re-enactors gathering on the Shiloh battlefield in West Tennessee. Union and Confederate portrayers attack each other before the re-enactment is scheduled to begin and things spin out of control.

Along with the laughs, the play offers insights into the Civil War and some of the wounds that still haven’t healed nearly 150 years later. Theater arts professor Terry Miller directs the production.

Performances begin at 8 p.m., except the Nov. 2 matinee at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $17 for general admission; $15 for seniors (60+), Fresno State faculty/staff and Alumni Association members and students from other schools; and $10 for Fresno State students.

The Theatre Box Office at the north entrance of the Speech Arts Building is open noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For tickets, call 559.278.7215 or visit www.csufresno.edu/theatrearts.
