The dean of the Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno, Dr. Michael Jenkins, was honored with the Professional Achievement Award from the Marquette University College of Engineering and the Marquette University Alumni Association in a ceremony on April 24. Jenkins graduated from the College of Engineering in 1980.

Jenkins is internationally recognized for his work in standards and codes of advanced materials such as composite and monolithic structural ceramics.

At Fresno State, he also serves as the faculty adviser for two student chapters of Engineers Without Borders.

Jenkins said the education of young engineers is a divine calling. “Touching students’ lives and making a difference are what encourage me to continue,” Jenkins said. “Being a teacher, an educator, a learning facilitator is a noble profession.”

The College of Engineering Alumni Awards ceremony was part of Marquette University’s Alumni Awards weekend, during which each college recognizes the contributions of its alumni and presents awards to those demonstrating exceptional achievement.
