California State University, Fresno Air Force ROTC Detachment 35 cadets won the unit’s sixth consecutive AFROTC Warrior Challenge – a competition among four Northern California detachments in leadership, athletic and team skills.

The Bulldog detachment, which is preparing for its commissioning ceremony next month, beat units from the University of California, San Jose State and Sacramento State in competition hosted at Fresno State in April. Each detachment competed in four to six athletic events.

“With their sixth straight victory, the cadets are at a level above a dynasty,” said Lt. Colonel Samuel Vandiver, commander of the Fresno State Detachment.

Earlier this academic year, the Fresno State detachment was honored with the Right of Line Award, symbolizing the best mid-sized AFROTC unit in the nation.

The detachment will hold its annual commissioning ceremony at 3 p.m. June 6, at the Save Mart Center, when graduates of the program will become Air Force second lieutenants and begin their active-duty assignments. The ceremony will include a flyover by the California Air National Guard 144th Fighter Wing.
