The Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market at California State University, Fresno is hoping its loyal customers will vote in a new online contest to make the student-products store on campus America’s Favorite Farmers Market.

The national contest is sponsored by the American Farmland Trust, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., working with communities and individuals to protect farmland, promote sound land stewardship and improve the economic vitality of agriculture.

Patrons of farmers markets across the nation are voting in a contest intended to promote purchasing local products. The theme is “Healthy Farms, Healthy Food and Healthy Communities: It’s what America needs!”

Winners in large, medium and small market categories will receive America’s Favorite Farmers Market designation and “No Farms, No Food”® tote bags to distribute to their customers.

To vote for the Gibson Farm Market at Fresno State, visit www.farmland.org/vote.

The market is at the southeast corner of Chestnut and Barstow avenues. Summer hours are 8 a.m-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Sweet corn sales have helped the Gibson Farm Market enjoy one of its best sales years. Currently, white corn is being harvested daily but demand is depleting the weekend’s supply fast. Yellow corn is still available but also moving out the door quickly.

The new “Bobby’s Corner” wine tastings – with enology student Bobby Brower showcasing two varietal Fresno State wines from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays – have brought new customers into the market.

Proceeds from the Gibson Farm Market and other Fresno State farm enterprises support the educational and research mission of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.
