Air Force Capt. Dave Magoc, an assistant professor of aerospace studies at California State University, Fresno, was presented the Air Force and Army Commendation Medals for service earlier this year in Iraq.

The Air Force award was for Magoc’s reduction in F-16 fighter-jet downtime and for management of supply accounts.

The Army award recognizes “exceptional leadership, professionalism and dedication to duty” in equipping Iraqi forces so they can take over security operations from American and allied forces. Magoc’s team processed vehicles and equipment worth more than $120 million during his deployment near Tikrit.

The medals were presented during the first leadership laboratory class by Air Force Lt. Col. John Lussi, commander of Fresno State’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 35.

Magoc is new to Fresno State, but is a veteran of 20 years of Air Force service.
