A symposium and artists reception for “A Studio of Their Own: The Legacy of the Fresno Feminist Experiment” will be held Thursday and Friday, Sept. 17 and 18, at California State University, Fresno.

The events are part of the exhibit documenting the foundation of the nation’s first feminist art education program at Fresno State in 1970 and its legacy in contemporary art. It continues through Oct. 9 at the Phebe Conley Art Gallery in the Conley Art Building on campus.

The symposium will include artist presentations by Nancy Youdelman and Vanalyne Green 2-4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Alice Peters Auditorium at Fresno State and 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 18 by Faith Wilding and Suzanne Lacy at the Conley Art Building, Room 101.

An artists reception and performances are scheduled 5-8 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Conley Art Gallery.

A panel discussion moderated by Moira Roth will be held 2-4 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Fresno Art Museum Bonner Auditorium. Participants will be Green, Lacy, Wilding, Youdelman, Dori Atlantis, Jackie Doumanian, Karen LeCocq, Jan Lester Martin, Chris Rush and Shawnee Wollenman.

All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

“A Studio of Their Own” was assembled by Dr. Laura Meyer, associate professor of art and design at Fresno State.
