Student leaders at California State University, Fresno have launched a “We are Worth It!” video campaign in support of higher education that has been sent to state legislators to protest budget cutting that has had severe impact on higher education.

The campaign, produced by Associated Students Inc. (ASI), was developed after the California State Student Association statewide day of action on Nov. 3 protesting budget cuts throughout the California State University system. Reduced state support has resulted in higher student fees, fewer class choices, enrollment limitations, faculty layoffs and furloughs and other actions with negative impact on higher education.

Members of the Fresno State student government asked students on campus “What is your degree worth?” A slideshow was created from photos of students holding cards with their answers.

The video, posted on YouTube with musical accompaniment, reflects a range of students’ faith in the value of their degree and how that could be undermined by decreased state support.

ASI president Jessica Sweeten said the video campaign was created “to help convince state legislators to invest in higher education and fund the future.”
