A reception recognizing a $33,000 gift provided by Aetna (NYSE: AET) to California State University, Fresno was held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Smittcamp Alumni House on campus.

The Student Health and Psychological Services unit will use this gift to create an Aetna Wellness Mobile Unit to share health information and conduct wellness events at locations across the campus. Fresno site manager Linda Machado will represent Aetna at the event.

Previous gifts from Aetna support the Aetna Wellness Resource Center, consisting of a library of health-related information, computers for student and faculty research and educational activities, and a relaxation lounge with health-testing equipment and other services.

In 2008, Aetna and the Aetna Foundation provided organizations across the country with more than $25.5 million. The Aetna Foundation is the independent charitable and philanthropic arm of Aetna Inc. Founded in 1972, the Foundation seeks to help build healthy communities by funding initiatives that improve the quality of life where our employees and customers work and live.

Aetna places great emphasis on wellness, community partnerships and embracing diversity. The Aetna Wellness Mobile Unit will allow the university to reach students where they are on campus, expanding outreach of health services.

Through one of its employee resource groups – Aetna Hispanic Network – Aetna has been a longtime partner with the university, providing service to the Chicano Alumni of Fresno State for events that include an annual scholarship banquet and Los Niños Holiday Literacy Festival.
