The Fresno State Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2010 Top Dog Alumni Awards, which are presented at the Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala during October’s homecoming activities.

The Top Dog honors are highlighted by the Distinguished Alumnus Award, presented each year to a former California State University, Fresno student who has made a significant contribution to the university, the San Joaquin Valley and California.

Nominees also must have received national or international recognition for their accomplishments.

Last year’s Distinguished Alumnus Award winner was sports broadcaster Trent Dilfer, a former record-setting Bulldog football player who went on to fame in the National Football League and capped his career at quarterback with a Super Bowl victory.

The October event also presents Outstanding Awards to recognize alumni for accomplishments in their fields who set an example for today’s Fresno State students. Outstanding Alumni Awards are presented for each academic school or college, the Henry Madden Library, Athletics, Student Affairs and Graduate Studies.

Nominations also are being accepted for the Arthur Safstrom Service Award, honoring alumni faculty, staff or friends of Fresno State who have given outstanding service to the Fresno State Alumni Association or to the university. The 2009 recipient was Sidney Cox, a public relations executive and longtime community and Alumni Association volunteer, leader and fundraiser.

Any faculty member, department chair, school/college dean, administrator, staff, student, alumnus or friend of the university may nominate any Fresno State graduate/alumnus for awards. All nominations are due to the Fresno State Alumni Association no later than March 5.

The Alumni Award Selection Committee will review the nominations.
