“Hang ’10” is the theme of Vintage Days 2010, the annual spring festival, which will attract more than 50,000 people to the California State University, Fresno campus April 15-18 and help launch the university’s 13-month Centennial celebration.

The 36th annual Vintage Days presents social, cultural and recreational activities on the Maple Mall, accompanied by a wide variety of food, concerts and special events.

The Centennial kickoff will look back to Fresno State’s founding in 1911 as Fresno Normal School and peview events through Commencement 2011. The Centennial celebration will offer numerous opportunities during the 2010-11 school year for alumni from all academic disciplines to join the community on campus.

University President John D. Welty and California State University Trustee Dr. Peter G. Mehas, the Centennial committee chair, will present a proclamation and unveil the Fresno State Centennial Web site during the opening ceremony at noon April 16.

That day begins at 7 a.m. with the annual Staff Assembly pancake breakfast, one day later than usual. As in past years, though, university administrators, led by President Welty and Bulldog Athletics coaches, will do the cooking.

Also on April 16, such popular attractions as the Boomtown Carnival, Casino Night, the Crafts Faire and Kid’s Zone will begin their three-day run.

For students, Vintage Days begins at 7 p.m. April 15 with Casino Night in the University Student Union Lounge.

A Vintage Days t-shirt design contest in the fall was won by student Margaret Brennan, a National Exchange Student from Wisconsin who is a junior art and design major, earning her $100 and other prizes. Shirts with Brennan’s winning logo will be available before and during Vintage Days, with proceeds benefiting the event.

Vintage Days is presented by a committee within the Student Involvement Center in the Division of Student Affairs. Josh Edrington is the Vintage Days adviser and Janine Frey, a sophomore pre-nursing major from Clovis, is this year’s student director.

Student coordinators are: Aly Smith of San Jose (Boomtown Carnival), Michael Donato of Tracy and Daniela Gonzalez of Visalia (concerts), Shachicka Morris of Victorville and Martha Zarate of Fresno (Kid’s Zone), Danielle Garza of Clovis (Casino Night), Kathryn Updyke of Palmdale (Craft’s Faire), Rebeka Garcia of Livingston (development), Sal Lucatero of Kingsburg (public relations), Kaci Raven of Hanford (marketing), and Tiffany Covell of Hollister (special events).
