Portable Dance Troupe’s production of “The Body Electric” from Feb. 12 to 20 begins California State University, Fresno’s stage presentations for the spring 2010 semester.

Under the leadership of artistic director Ruth Griffin, who teaches dance at Fresno State, the production will showcase student performances of interpretative dance across a broad range of subjects.

The prologue, choreographed and directed by Griffin, is “The Body Electric,” based on Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself.”

Other vignettes are drawn from J.S. Bach’s “English Suite No. 2,” Béla Bartók’s “String Quartet No. 4” and traditional Shaker music.

“Right to the Moon,” also choreographed and directed by Griffin, pays homage to “Endgame” by Samuel Beckett, “The Bald Soprano” by Eugene Ionesco, the movie “Pleasantville” and ”The Honeymooners,” “I Love Lucy,” “Burns and Allen,” “Leave It to Beaver” and “Your Show of Shows” from 1950s TV.
