Amanda Tang, a junior nursing major who confesses she “lives” in the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, is the building’s millionth visitor.
Tang was honored as she walked through the front door just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17. Library Associate Dean Dave Tyckoson presented her with a gift basket filled with student-produced foods from the campus’ Gibson Farm Market, a Starbucks gift card and an autographed book, “Where the Ox Does Not Plow,” by Fresno State Professor Emeritus of Music Manuel Peña.
Tang, 20, whose hometown is Elk Grove, said she frequently comes to the library to study – by herself or with classmates in the group study room.
“As a nursing student, I pretty much live in the library,” she said. “I definitely use the library a lot.”
Tang expects to graduate in 2012 and hopes to work in pediatric oncology. She said she’ll return to the campus at some point for a master’s degree.
“I love Fresno State!” Tang said, adding that she was happy to be in the right place and the right time to be crowned the millionth library patron. Tang plans to be at the library Feb. 24 for the campus celebration of its first birthday.
Since its opening nearly a year ago, the Henry Madden Library’s “gate counter” has been clicking off the number of visitors who enter the building. Library staffers monitored the counter to determine millionth person.
