A symposium tribute to author Ray Bradbury will be presented by California State University, Fresno’s Henry Madden Library, the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature and the Fresno County Public Library.

The two-day event, “Ray Bradbury: Poet of the American Dreamtime,” is part of the 2010 Big Read program, which focuses on Bradbury’s signature science-fiction novel “Fahrenheit 451.”

It begins at 7 p.m. March 19 at the Woodward Park Branch Library in northwest Fresno, with a discussion led by Tim Hamilton, cartoonist and illustrator. He produced the authorized graphic novel version of “Fahrenheit 451.”

Angelica Carpenter, curator of the sponsoring Arne Nixon Center, will be the moderator.

The tribute continues 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 20 at the Fresno State Student Recreation Center with a symposium sponsored by the Madden Library.

Speakers include:

  • Hamilton
  • Gregory Bear, science fiction author
  • William F. Nolan, co-author of Logan’s Run
  • Terry Bisson, science fiction author
  • Sam Weller, journalist and professor at Columbia College

The highlight will be a live video conversation with Bradbury at 4 p.m.

Saturday’s event will be moderated by Dr. Howard Hendrix, a local sci-fi author and university English professor.
