Philip Levine, a Pulitzer Prize winner for poetry in 1995 and professor emeritus of English, will return to the California State University, Fresno campus at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8 for a poetry reading.

The reading, hosted by the Fresno Poets’ Association and the university’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program, will take place in the Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room of the Henry Madden Library.

There is no admission charge, but seating is limited. A reception will follow the presentation. Parking will be available in lots E, D, and C.

Levine was a professor at Fresno State from 1958 to 1992. He was named the outstanding professor in the California State University system in 1972.

He has received numerous grants, fellowships and awards, including the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1995 for his book “The Simple Truth,” and numerous Book Critics Circle honors for his work. He has written 17 books of poetry including his latest “News of the World” and “Breath: The Mercy.”

Levine’s work appears regularly in the New Yorker magazine and in other periodicals. He has taught and read throughout the nation and this weekend will celebrate his 75th birthday by participating in a two-day colloquium at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee where he has been a visiting professor.
