Twenty-three elementary schools from Madera, Fresno and Tulare counties received the Bonner Center’s 2010 Virtues and Character Recognition Awards at California State University, Fresno’s 26th annual Conference on Character and Civic Education.

Fresno State’s School of Education and Human Development holds the daylong conference (this year on Friday, April 9) for student teachers from Fresno State and Fresno Pacific Universities at the Fresno Convention Center.

The conference helps future teachers understand about local resources to local assist children and families with life issues and about ethical implications of teaching.

The Virtues and Character Recognition Awards recognize schools that:

  • Promote core ethical values as the basis of good character.
  • Foster an intentional and comprehensive approach to its core values.
  • Provide students opportunities for moral action.

The 2010 honorees:

  • Centerville Elementary, Del Rey Elementary, Fairmont, Jackson Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Lone Star Elementary, Madison Elementary, Quail Lake Environmental Charter, Ronald Reagan Elementary, Sanger Academy Charter School, John Wash Elementary and Wilson Elementary schools, Sanger Unified School District.
  • Mickey Cox and Red Bank Elementary schools, Clovis Unified School District
  • Figarden Elementary and Homan Elementary schools, Fresno Unified School District
  • Monte Vista Elementary School, Porterville Unified School District
  • Oak Grove Elementary School, Burton School District
  • John Pershing Elementary School, Madera Unified School District
