The College of Social Sciences at California State University, Fresno will host a lecture by Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, founder of Mexico’s Party of the Democratic Revolution.

Cárdenas will speak on “The Promise and Legacy of the Mexican Revolution on its Centennial” at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at Fresno State’s Music Building, Room 160.

Cárdenas was governor of Michoacán state from 1980 to 1986 and was the first elected mayor of Mexico City, where he served from 1997 to 1999. Currently, Cárdenas is in residence at the Center for Latin American Studies at University of California at Berkeley.

“Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas has played a crucial role on the democratization process of Mexico during the last few decades, for this reason he can offer a unique perspective on past and contemporary issues on Mexico’s politics,” said Dr. Maria-Aparecida Lopes, a professor in the Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies at Fresno State.

The event is free and open to the public.
