The Dairy Processing Unit at California State University, Fresno is introducing no-sugar-added vanilla to the Fresno State Ice Cream lineup.

The new frozen treat is a healthier alternative among the dozens of flavors sold at the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market on campus (Chestnut and Barstow avenues).

The ice cream contains maltilol, a sugar substitute with half the calories of sugar. Because maltilol metabolizes more slowly into the blood stream, it is considered a good sugar substitute for people with diabetes.

The Gibson Farm Market offers ice cream tastings on the second Tuesday of each month, introducing the no-sugar-added vanilla on the same day as free tastes of orange sherbet and toasted almond.
