Senior public relations students at Fresno State taking the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism “Cases and Campaigns” class partnered with United Way of Fresno County to host the inaugural Community Partner Appreciation Breakfast.

The breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, at TorNino’s Banquets (5080 N. Blackstone Ave.) was designed to say “thank you” to more than two-dozen community partners who have supported United Way with their time, supplies and money, despite the economic downturn.

Fresno State students began researching, planning and implementing the event at the start of the spring semester in January.

“It has been wonderful to have the energy, creativity and professionalism of these students produce an event that will be enjoyed by everyone who attends,” said Patricia A. Clary, the United Way president and CEO.

Students tracked hours spent working on the event, so they can be counted towards the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning total for the year. The goal is to volunteer at least a million hours in a year by 2011, the university’s Centennial.

The Community Partner Appreciation Breakfast is accepting reservations at 559.244.5710.
