A Science and Health Career Information Center opening at California State University, Fresno is intended to provide one-stop resources for students.

The center in Room 136 of the Science Building (2576 E. San Ramon) is operated by the College of Science and Mathematics. It offers information on pre-health and science programs and careers, helps students make appointments with advisers and guides students to support services.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. April 14. An open house will follow until 3 p.m. for students and from 4 to 6 p.m. for faculty, staff and community partners. Drop-in advising with pre-health advisers will be available for students.

The center was designed to serve students interested in obtaining information on health professional careers in such fields as medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and optometry.

Information will be available on majors and programs in the College of Science and Mathematics:

  • forensic science
  • environmental science
  • biotechnology
  • clinical lab science
  • high school science and math teaching
  • biology
  • chemistry
  • computer science
  • Earth science
  • physics
  • psychology

Information will be available on College of Science and Math graduate programs and research, and assistance will be provided for students interested in applying for university and college scholarships.

The center also houses the Health Careers Opportunity and Pre-Health Scholars programs, which are joint programs of the University of California, San Francisco’s Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research and Fresno State’s College of Science and Mathematics. The two programs provide wide-ranging support for students interested in careers in the health professions. Students from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who also meet GPA and other program requirements, are eligible to participate.
