California State University, Fresno students are trying to break the Guinness World Record for mass spooning by college students and will use the Spooning for Hunger event to help the Bulldog Pantry.

The record is 432 participants in Germany, but Fresno State marketing students organizing the spooning event hope 750 Fresno State students will get close to each other and shatter the mark.

Dr. William Rice, a professor of marketing and logistics, had his class plan the event to raise money and resources for a cause. Spooning-record participants are asked to bring canned and nonperishable food or cash donations that will benefit the Bulldog Pantry, a student-run food bank serving neighbor residents of the university.

The event takes place noon-3 p.m. on the band practice field by the Science 2 building at Fresno State (Barstow Avenue between Price and Woodrow avenues). The plan is for an hour of mingling, before two hours of spooning.

Participants who want a commemorative t-shirt and an official Guinness certificate of the accomplishment will pay $10.
