Two graduating seniors on the California State University, Fresno men’s and women’s bowling teams have been recognized by United States Bowling Congress’ intercollegiate division as the 2010 winners of the Chris Steer Sportsmanship Award.

Jasmine Coleman, a senior health science major, and Paul Hogan, a senior psychology major, both from Manteca, were chosen for the Stoehr Sportsmanship Award for their character and sportsmanship on and off the lanes. They also were nominees for Collegiate Bowler of the Year.

“These two have been setting the bar in our program for a long time, and I’m very gratified to see them recognized for their efforts,” said Chris Preble, the Fresno State coach. Bowling is a club sport at Fresno State, supported by funds raised by the bowlers.

The sportsmanship award is voted upon by college coaches, who nominate candidates and vote during the annual intercollegiate championships, held April 14-17 in El Paso, Texas.

Coleman and Hogan also were named 2nd Team All-Americans, as was teammate Greg Geering, a sophomore from Phoenix.

The Intercollegiate Team Championships invite the top 16 men’s and women’s bowling teams in the nation to compete for the title.
