Summer programs for children return to the California State University, Fresno campus offering a variety of academic and athletic camps, classes and clinics for elementary, middle and high school students.

Academic-oriented programs will be offered for children interested in veterinary science, engineering, design and entrepreneurship. Sports camps will teach the fine points of football, baseball, basketball, soccer and volleyball.

Summer Vet camp (call 559.278.0333)

Description: For students in grades 7-9. Veterinary experts provide hands-on experiences, live animals, technology demonstrations and labs, and explain how to prepare for a career in veterinary medicine. Details: 8 a.m.-noon July 12-16; registration fee of $245 covers materials, laboratory supplies, take-home suture kit, stethoscope, back pack and scrub shirt; camp fills so registration before June 21 is recommended.

Girls Summer Engineering Experience (SEE) Program (call 559.278.1076)

Description: Intended for girls in grades 10-12 to learn the impact of engineering on society through hands-on activities in civil, computer, electrical, geomatics and mechanical engineering and construction management, courses in which are offered by Fresno State’s Lyles College of Engineering. Details: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 12-16; registration $200 for past SEE participants, $250 for new campers; applications online at SEE website due by May 28 and accepted applicants will be notified June 4.

KIDS Invent! (call 559.294.2045)

Description: Young Inventor, a half-day camp, gives students in grades 1-3 a chance to grow their own garden, create art, write and put on a puppet show. Details: 8 a.m.-noon or 1-5 p.m. June 14-18; registration $159 before May 20, $179 after.

Description: Full-day camps for students in grades 4-8 (see subjects below). Details: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 14-18 (toys from building through marketing and writing a business plan), July 19-23 (robot design, construction and operation) and July 19-23 (individual and group work on video production); registration $279 before May 20, $299 after.

BARK camp (call 559.347.3876)

Description: Bulldog Activities and Recreational Kids (BARK) summer sports camp for children ages 6-12 offers a chance to master new skills, be creative, foster new friendships and have a positive experience in a safe environment. Details: 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 14-18, June 21-25, July 12-16, July 19-23; registration $175 per week for the general public,$150 per week for Fresno State students, faculty, staff or members of the Alumni Association; register online at www.barksportscamp.com.

Description: Individual skills and techniques for students entering grades 9-12. Details: 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. June 16 and 19; registration $125 by May 15, $150 after deadline.

Baseball camps (call 559.278.2178)

Description: Camps for elementary, middle and high school students offer training and instruction in the fundamentals of baseball by Fresno State baseball coaches. Details: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. June 22-25 (ages 7-12, registration $250); 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays in July (grades 7-8, registration $150); 5-7 p.m. Mondays in July (grades 9-12, registration $150).

Fresno State men’s basketball camp (call 559.389.1933)

Description: For boys in grades 2-11; includes time with Fresno State players. Details: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 28-July 1; registration $125 (includes shirt, basketball).

Fresno State women’s basketball camps (call 559.278.6061)

Description: Designed to provide a safe environment for soccer instruction for all players, using Fresno State training facilities and staffed by current and past Bulldog men’s and women’s athletes and coaches. Details: June 23-26 residential camp, registration $450 (includes room and food on campus) or $360 (commuters); 9 a.m.-noon June 21-23 Young ‘Dogs Camps June 21-23, July 7-9 and July 26-28, registration $99; 9 a.m.-noon July 12-16, registration $150; 1-3 p.m. July 7-9 (ages 13-18 advanced; registration $80); 6-8 p.m. July 26-28 (ages 13-18 basic; registration $80).
