The May issue of US Airways in-flight magazine focuses on the Fresno-Clovis area with articles that spotlight several California State University, Fresno endeavors.

The 17-page spread reports on the appeal of the central San Joaquin Valley to visitors, businesses and those who already are residents.

The Fresno State campus attractions included in the profile are:

  • The Save Mart Center, the Valley’s biggest indoor venue for concerts, athletic events, Commencement and other events open to the community.
  • The Fresno State Winery, the nation’s first commercially bonded vintner on a university campus, where student-produced vintages have won hundreds of medals in competition with the world’s best wines.
  • The Fresno State Agricultural Laboratory (campus farm), where students get hands-on training in food and livestock production, water-saving irrigation techniques, plant development and organic farming methods, among others.
  • The Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market, where student-produced food and wine are sold to the public in a student-operated enterprise whose profits are reinvested in programs of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.
  • The Water and Energy Technology (WET) Center, a partnership with the Central Valley Business Incubator that encourages ideas about new water-conserving and energy-generating methods to develop into job-building, economy-enhancing businesses.
  • The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, whose mission is cultivating a regional culture of creativity that can be nurtured into local business enterprises.
  • The Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning, cited for its commitment to helping the university achieve at least 1 million hours of volunteer service from the Fresno State campus annually.

“The articles wonderfully capture a sense of our area’s vibrancy and reflect the impact Fresno State has throughout the region,” said Shirley Melikian Armbruster, associate vice president for University Communications. “We are excited to know that millions of US Airways passengers will have a chance to learn why we are so proud of our university and the region we serve.”
