Willie Brown joins Costa as Maddy Tribute emcee

Former Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown will join Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, as an emcee of the 2010 Maddy Institute Tribute at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Fresno Convention Center.

The event will recognize three San Joaquin Valley lawmakers leaving the Legislature this year: Sen. Dave Cogdill, R-Modesto, and Assembly Members Juan Arambula, I-Fresno, and Mike Villines, R-Clovis. They also are Maddy Institute board members.

The tribute is a fundraiser for the Kenneth L. Maddy Institute at Fresno State, home to the Legislative Scholar Internship Program that helps university students from Stockton to Bakersfield in legislative offices in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.
