The American Chemical Society will honor Dr. Stephen A. Rodemeyer, an emeritus professor of chemistry and former director of the Smittcamp Family Honors College at  California State University, Fresno as a 2010 fellow.

Only two other chemistry professors throughout the 23-campus California State University system were selected for the recognition. The American Chemical Society Fellows Program, started in 2009, recognizes members who have excelled in chemistry and provided outstanding service to the organization.

Rodemeyer joined Fresno State faculty in 1967. In addition to teaching, he chaired the Department of Chemistry and was dean of the School of Natural Sciences. As a member of the society, he held various board and committee positions. Rodemeyer has also authored many research publications.

He was the Smittcamp Family Honors College director for its first 10 years, retiring in 2009.

The new fellows will be honored during the American Chemical Society’s 2010 national meeting Aug. 22-26 in Boston.
