The Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno and Sierra Foothill Conservancy host an exhibition of artwork depicting the Sierra foothills throughout the four seasons as well as a reception and presentation.

A collection of paintings by 23 California artists will be displayed Thursday, Aug. 12 to Aug. 26 at the Leon S. Peters Ellipse Gallery in the library’s Table Mountain Rancheria Tower.

The artwork is done in the en plein air (translated as “in the open air) style, so the exhibition is called “En Plein Sight.”

The reception is at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at the gallery, followed at 7 o’clock by the presentation. Guest speakers are Adam Longatti, a plein air artist and professor in Fresno State’s Department of Art and Design; Rodney Olson, a biologist and professor at Fresno City College; and Chuck Peck, land protection director for the conservancy and one of its founders.

The evening’s activities are free and open to the community. There is no charge for parking on campus for the event. The exhibit is open at no charge during the library’s regular hours.

The exhibit highlights the 20,000 acres between Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks that is in protected status under stewardship of the Sierra Foothill Conservancy.

The paintings will also be exhibited and on sale 5-8 p.m. Aug. 29 at the California Arts Academy in the Tower District at a fundraising reception to benefit the conservancy. Information about that event is available atwww.sierrafoothill.org/pleinair.
