Tou F. Xiong, a senior public administration major at California State University, Fresno, is participating in the 12th annual Congressional internship program hosted by the Panetta Institute for Public Policy at California State University, Monterey Bay.

The semester-long program begins with a two-week orientation for the 25 participants chosen by Fresno State President John D. Welty and the presidents of the other 22 California State University campuses, Dominican University and Santa Clara University. Students are selected based on academic achievement and interest in politics.

After the orientation, they begin 11-week internships with members of California’s Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. They also will attend seminars with key government leaders on a broad range of policy topics.

Each student receives 20 academic credits upon successful completion of the internship.

Xiong hopes the experience will help him pursue a career in the public sector and attend graduate school.
