Dr. Timothy Stearns, director of the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at California State University, Fresno advocates making a course in entrepreneurship mandatory for high school students.

Stearns a key to recovery from tough economic times is developing and nurturing ideas for new businesses, which he says requires community commitment to a higher priority for entrepreneurship.

The Lyles Center is the region’s major center for education in entrepreneurship and innovation. The center’s extensive outreach program in central San Joaquin Valley public schools touches thousands of youngsters annually through programs and competitions that encourage entrepreneurship and innovative thinking.
