Dr. Ramakrishna “Ram” Nunna, has been appointed interim dean of California State University, Fresno’s Lyles College of Engineering.

Nunna, who joined the Fresno State faculty in 1998, has been associate dean of the Lyles College since 2007. He previously chaired the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and was interim coordinator of the college’s Construction Management program.

Nunna said, “I’m looking forward to working with faculty, staff and our community partners in building on the strong foundation of the Lyles College in academic excellence, technical education and training, research, community service and outreach to the community.”

In announcing Nunna’s two-year appointment, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs William A. Covino said, “His scholarship and teaching have focused on computer architecture and application specific integrated circuit design.”

Covino added, “Ram has built a strong record of scholarly publication, funded research, institutional, professional and community service.”

Nunna follows Dr. Michael Jenkins, who became dean in 2007 and will return to teaching in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Nunna earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications from Bangalore University in India and master’s and doctoral degrees in computer engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The Lyles College is the oldest publicly supported engineering college in the San Joaquin Valley, offering engineering courses and programs since the 1920s.

Nationally accredited Bachelor of Science degree programs are available in civil, electrical, computer, geomatics and mechanical engineering and in construction management. The college offers a Master of Science in Engineering with options in electrical and mechanical engineering and a master’s program in civil engineering.

The college has established a reputation for outreach in the San Joaquin Valley intended to increase the number of well-trained engineers and construction managers to serve the region and grow the economy.

The Lyles College annually hosts hundreds of students from Valley middle and high schools in competitions utilizing their engineering and math skills and also provides workshops offering information for public school students and their parents.
