California State University, Fresno observes National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week today, Oct. 20 with two events on campus – Fall Harvest Festival ’10 and Milk and Cookies Night — that demonstrate the dangers of alcohol abuse.

The festival kicks off Alcohol Awareness Week from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Memorial Court in front of the Kennel Bookstore. It is free and open to Fresno State students, faculty and staff.

The event offers activities such as “fatal vision” goggles, a haunted maze, a palm reader and treats. A caricature artist and a Mocktail Lounge will be available for students.

Mocktails are traditional alcoholic-like drinks, served without alcohol, that show students alternatives to drinking, said Kathy Yarmo, coordinator of Health Promotion and Wellness Services for the division of Student Affairs.

The Fall Harvest Festival is sponsored by Associated Students Inc., the University Health and Psychological Services and the Alcohol Safety Council at Fresno State.

From 9 to 11 p.m., University Courtyard celebrates Alcohol Awareness Week with the annual Milk and Cookies night. The University Police Department will present a fatal vision goggle simulation and mock field sobriety tests for University Courtyard residents.

Milk and Cookies Night is sponsored by University Courtyard’s Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students Committee.
