The Central Valley Cultural Heritage Institute at California State University, Fresno celebrates the third annual Latino Heritage Festival with food, folk dances and musical performances from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, on the Maple Mall, across from the Music Building.

The event is free and open to the public.

Among the highlights is a performance by La Sonora Explocion Dinamitera (formerly La Sonora Dinamita), a well-known band specializing in the cumbia music that originated in the Caribbean part of Colombia.

Poetry readings are scheduled and flamenco and folklorico dance troupes will perform throughout the event, including Fresno State’s Los Danzantes de Aztlan and the Aztec Dance Club.

Student clubs and other organizations will have informational booths at the festival displaying traditional Latino crafts and food. A kids zone is available for children.

The Latino Heritage Festival is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, the College of Arts and Humanities, Kremen School of Education and Human Development, College of Health and Human Services, College of Social Sciences, Division of Graduate Studies and Alpha Pi Sigma.
