Tracy Velazquez, executive director of the Justice Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., will speak at the 2010 Regional Children’s Summit on Friday, Oct. 29, presented by the Central California Children’s Institute of California State University, Fresno.

The summit, “Setting the Valley’s Agenda for Children,” is from 10 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Newman Center (1572 E. Barstow Ave.), located north of Bulldog Stadium.

The event is sponsored by The California Endowment and Fresno State. It is free and open to the public. The reservation deadline is Oct. 25.

Velazquez’ keynote speech is “Why Investing in Trauma-Informed Practices Makes Sense.” Dr. Cassandra Joubert, director of the institute, will discuss “The Power of a Shared Agenda.”

Roundtable discussions about developing the Central California Children’s Agenda project will follow the keynote presentation. The project’s goal is to unite Central Valley child advocates around common goals and strategies that promise to improve the lives of Valley children and their families.

The Central California Children’s Institute was established in 2000 as the Institute for the Study of Children and Families to improve the well-being and quality of life for all children, youth and their families in the Central California region.
