Nearly 300 freshmen students from California State University, Fresno and area community colleges will compete in the 14th annual Central California Engineering Design Challenge.

It will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Clovis Community College Center, 390 W. Fir Ave. (north of Herndon between Peach and Villa). The event is hosted by Fresno State’s Lyles College of Engineering and is free and open to the public.

With the theme “Gone with the Wind,” students will work in teams to design a wheeled vehicle powered by an airstream from a stationary fan. They will compete to keep their vehicle moving in a straight line for the longest time.

Two rounds of competition will be held at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. The winning team will be announced at a closing ceremony during lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participating students are from the engineering and pre-engineering programs at Fresno State, College of the Sequoias, Fresno City College, Reedley College and Willow International Community College.
