Local author Ben Romero and Central California artist Dora Mora will be featured at the Los Niños Holiday Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the University Business Center in California State University, Fresno.

Sponsored by the Chicano Alumni chapter of the Fresno State Alumni Association, the annual event promotes literacy in the family for children in foster care. Participating children will receive two books, take a picture with Santa Claus, have lunch and join in a piñata candy bash. Foster parents will also attend a workshop that informs them of opportunities in higher education such as, college admissions and financial aid.

Fresno Reads, Latino Rotary, Mexican Consulate, Enterprise, Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Pepsi, Mateo’s Restaurant and Dave’s Pizza contributed books and food for the event.

Romero, famous for his “Chicken Beaks” books, will help children write letters to Santa. Mora will conduct an art workshop for the attending children.

Chicano Alumni also awards a scholarship to a former foster care student enrolled at Fresno State. Anyone interested in donating to the Chicano Alumni Scholarship fund can contact Frances Pena-Olgin at 559.278.5374 forfrancesp@csufresno.edu.
