There’s the possibility – not the promise – of snowfall on the San Joaquin Valley floor for the first time since Dec. 11, 2005, meaning California State University, Fresno might get its first flakes in a little over five years, too.

In 2005, National Weather Service recorded a trace of snow in Fresno, duplicating the amount on Jan. 25, 1999. You have to go back to Dec. 20, 1998 for measurable snowfall in Fresno.

The record for Fresno is 2.5 inches on Jan. 12, 1930, and the impact of that event at Fresno State’s former campus (now home to Fresno City College) was captured photographically and published in the 1930 Campus yearbook.

The photos depict the Spanish Renaissance-architecture with Moorish-influenced arches, brick construction and red tile roofs liberally dusted with snow. Pines and palms alike were photographed with snowy mantles.

Anyone up for building a snow Bulldog, if the weather cooperates?
