By the end of Friday, Feb. 25, six University High School students will have professional music videos published online thanks to a rare Fresno stop by the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus at California State University, Fresno.
The 67.5-foot bus and trailer will be parked in the loading zone in front of University High (2611 E. Matoian Way, just west of the Smittcamp Alumni House) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. giving students the opportunity to make a music video in a day aboard the mobile audio and HD video recording and production facility.
The public is welcome to see the bus, but only participating students will be allowed inside, said Dr. Otto Benavides, director of the Instructional Technology and Resource Center within the Kremen School of Education and Human Resources. The Kremen School is coordinating the local stop for the University High students.
The bus travels to schools, musical and technology conferences and events throughout the country so students can work on state-of-the-art equipment provided by sponsors such as Avid, Apple, Gibson Guitar, Epiphone, Mont Blanc and Sony. It is made possible by an agreement with Yoko Ono Lennon. The bus program has been in operation 14 years.
Three on-board engineers will help students learn how to write, perform, record and produce original songs, produce and shoot music videos and documentaries and complete a broadcast-quality music video during a day of intensive instruction.
All projects will be available for viewing on lennonbus.org, YouTube, Facebook and MySpace.
Avid, which makes editing systems, also partners with the Kremen School and offered the bus stop opportunity to Benavides, who applied for the visit three years ago.
University High School is a charter school in the Fresno Unified School District whose campus is part of the Fresno State campus.
