The Persian Language Program and the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno celebrate International Day of Nowruz at 6 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Alice Peters Auditorium in the University Business Center.

Traditional Persian, Urdu and Afghan poetry, Middle Eastern food and music and historical activities relating to Nowruz will be featured at the event.

Nowruz, meaning ‘new day’ in Persian, celebrates the vernal equinox that marks the beginning of the new calendar year in Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The traditional event is observed by more than 300 million people mostly in Central Asia, the Middle East and the Balkans.
