The closing date of the stunning “Carrousel Animals at Fresno State” exhibition at California State University, Fresno’s Henry Madden Library has been moved forward to Saturday, Aug. 27.

The 44 hand-carved wood carousel animals from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and other material about those times and about the animal artwork, are part of the collection of Larry Freels of Fresno. The Freels collection is considered the biggest of its kind in the United States outside of the Smithsonian Institution.

The Fresno State exhibition originally was scheduled to run through Aug. 31. The date was changed to allow sufficient time to remove the carousel pieces and to install the next exhibition in the library.

The change in the ending date does not affect the family-friendly carousel exhibition hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Docent-led tours are offered at 10 a.m. Monday-Friday, 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and by appointment. Tours can be booked with Kenlynn Nelson at kenlynn_nelson@csufresno.edu or 559.278.8342.

There is no charge to attend the exhibition and children 12 and under receive a voucher good for one free ride on the carousel at the Rotary Storyland and Playland at Roeding Park, near downtown Fresno.
