“The Courage to Remember,” a traveling exhibit on the Holocaust, begins a six-day run at California State University, Fresno after a ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, with Rabbi Yitzchok Alderstein of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and two holocaust survivors.

On display will be 42 panels that depict a historical account of the German Nazi campaign against Jews before and during World War II that resulted in the killing of 6 million Jews, political dissidents, prisoners of war, Slavs, Gypsies, homosexuals and the mentally ill.

The free, public exhibit, which is presented by the Foundation for California, will be in the lower level of the University Student Union Pavilion.

Hours on opening day are 4:30-9 p.m.; 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday-Monday, Sept. 23-26, and 9-10 a.m. Sept. 27.

The Foundation for California is a Southern California-based nonprofit educational corporation that hosts conferences on public policy issues, sponsors educational lecture series and traveling exhibits and promotes dialog of important issues throughout the state.

The exhibit was created by the Museum of Tolerance, a multimedia facility that is part of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles.

Joining Rabbi Adlerstein will be Dr. Alfred Balitzer, chairman of the Foundation for California and survivors Ephraim Hadjis of Madera and Anna Levin-Ware of Fresno.

Assembly member Dr. Linda Halderman, R-Clovis, Fresno County Schools Supt. Larry L. Powell, Fresno County Supervisor Debbie Poochigian and Fresno County Superior Court Judge Dale Ikeda also will participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A musical tribute to the memory of Holocaust victims, “Remembrances,” will be performed by Limor Toren-Immerman, a Fresno State professor of violin, accompanied by pianist Hatem Nadim.

The traveling exhibit is funded by an educational grant from the French National Railway Corporation and is co-sponsored at Fresno State by USU Productions.
