Opposing forces in the contentious California high-speed rail debate will face off at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct.27, at Fresno State.
Elizabeth Alexis with Californians Advocating Responsible Rail Design and Daniel Krause of Californians for High Speed Rail will join former Assemblymember Mike Villines for the town hall meeting and public debate.
The event will be held at the Satellite Student Union (Maple Avenue south of Barstow Avenue at San Ramon Avenue).
Presented by the Smittcamp Family Honors College and FresnoWorks, the free, public event is part of a series of seminars held at Fresno State this semester considering the proposed San Joaquin Valley route for a California high-speed rail system.
Bill McEwen, a Fresno Bee columnist, will moderate the discussion and host audience questions after short presentations from each speaker.
More than 200 students are enrolled in the high-speed rail course this semester, including some from the Smittcamp Family Honors College and the Lyles College of Engineering. Dr. Honora Chapman, the honors college director, and Dr. Mark Somma, a political science professor, organized the seminars.
Fresno Works is a coalition of Fresno city and county officials, the Council of Fresno County Governments, business, labor and education promoting high-speed rail.
