The Fresno State Bulldog spirit pervaded 31 Central Valley Save Mart Supermarkets for a fall semester promotional contest to see which store’s employees could  devise the most creative Fresno State Winery display using Bulldog Athletics merchandize.

Monday, Oct. 31, Fresno State football Coach Pat Hill and Joe Joralemon, a senior enology major who works at the on-campus winery, dropped in on the winning store at 4041 E. Ashlan Ave., to deliver the prize: four tickets to the Nov. 5  game against Louisiana Tech at Bulldog Stadium. The tickets were raffled off to store employees.

Accompanied by Fresno State’s Spirit Squad — mascot Time Out and the Bulldog Cheerleaders – the coach thanked the Save Mart employees and store manager John Avilla for their enthusiasm in developing the most-creative display as judged by winery and Athletics staff.

Save Mart and Fresno State teamed up for the in-store spirit competition between stores to promote the football tailgating season. Six finalists were selected. Runners-up at stores in Visalia and Fresno received two football tickets for an employee raffle.
