It’s called the “Battle for the Milk Can” when Fresno State plays Boise State in football and the “Battle for the Bone” when Fresno State’s Bulldogs take on Louisiana Tech’s Bulldog footballers.

What’s missing is a name for Fresno State’s long football rivalry with San Diego State. And it’s an also opportunity for someone to make history by naming the cup or trophy that goes to the winner of this year’s Bulldog-Aztecs game on Dec. 3 in San Diego.

This year the winning team will walk out of the stadium with a trophy. If you name the cup, you’ll walk away with a new iPad 2!

The Fresno State Alumni Association and San Diego State University Alumni Association invite all students, alumni and fans to enter their ideas in a “Name the Cup” contest. Ideas must be submitted to jacquig@fresnostate.edu and must say “Name the Cup” in the subject line.

Nominations can be in the form of suggestions and/or designs. A description of the trophy (50 words or less) and valid phone number must accompany each entry.

The clock is ticking on this opportunity: The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. The winner will be selected by a committee composed of an equal number of representatives from each school’s alumni association. California State University Alumni Trustee Bob Linscheid (Chico State, 1979) will cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie.
