Fresno State’s Bulldog women’s basketball team exits the Western Athletic Conference as the regular-season conference champion after a 65-62 triumph over rival Louisiana Tech on Thursday, March 1, at the Save Mart Center before a program record 7,689 fans.
Fresno State is leaving the conference after this academic year to join the Mountain West Conference.
The Bulldogs finish the regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, hosting New Mexico State. But that won’t be the end of women’s college basketball at the Save Mart Center this spring. On March 20 and 22, the Fresno State campus arena will host the Fresno Regional (Round of 16) in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Fresno State would secure an automatic berth in the NCAA tourney by winning the WAC tournament.
