Over the next five weeks, Fresno State marketing students are attempting to break eight Guinness World Records ™ ranging from the largest fruit smoothie to most people uncorking wine bottles at the same time. The first record try at noon Saturday, April 7, is the most people dyeing eggs.

The Smile on Easter team will attempt the egg-dyeing record at Boomers! family activities park (7354 N. Abby St.) in northeast Fresno. The record is 317 people dyeing eggs, but on April 1 a group submitted a claim that it had gathered 607 people to dye eggs, so Fresno State’s team is hoping 608 people will participate to eclipse the later effort should that be recognized as a new record.

An easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. to noon will precede the record attempt.

Each project is undertaken by students in the “Strategic Marketing” class taught by Dr. William Rice of the Department of Management and Marketing in the Craig School of Business.

Every semester, Rice’s students are assigned to conduct major marketing campaigns. In recent years, students have promoted everything from the largest recycled Bulldog to last year’s unsuccessful effort to stage the largest water balloon fight that drew thousands to campus.

The projects usually benefit a charitable cause, are free and open to the public and rely on donations and sponsorships rather than public funds.

Students must get clearance from the university’s Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management Office for food products or liability risks.
