Fresno State softball coach Margie Wright was honored Tuesday, June 5, by the County of Fresno for her illustrious career at Fresno State.

Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea, a Fresno State alumnus, presented Wright with a proclamation stating this June is “Margie Wright Month” in the county in recognition of her accomplishments.

In May, Wright announced her retirement at the end of the 2012 season. Her 27-year coaching career at Fresno State included numerous conference championships, a national collegiate softball championship, an NCAA record 1,294 coaching victories, a record 26 consecutive seasons of post-season tournament appearances. She also provided opportunities for hundreds of student-athletes to compete at college softball’s highest level and in the Olympics.

A community celebration of Wright’s contributions to her players and to the university is planned for 1 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Bulldog Diamond.
