Agricultural Lending Institute on Fresno State campus June 18-22

The 11th annual Agricultural Lending Institute is scheduled Monday, June 18, through June 22 at Fresno State’s Craig School of Business with a presentation by Jason R. Henderson, vice-president and branch executive with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Mo.

Henderson will discuss “What are the Regulators Saying about the Farm Land Boom and You!” at 5 p.m. June 18 at the University Business Center in the Peters Business Building. His presentation, based on a study he authored, will examine current and past farmland booms.

Henderson leads several Federal Reserve System initiatives to track agricultural and rural economies, including the quarterly publication of the Tenth Federal Reserve District and the Federal Reserve’s “Agricultural Finance Databook.” The tenth district takes in part of Missouri and New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.

Dr. Robert Harper, dean of the Craig School, said the event is “a great way for Fresno State to showcase its expertise and engagement with the business community by providing timely information and bringing together world class leaders in agricultural finance.”

Agricultural Lending Institute co-chair Curt Covington, Bank of the West’s senior vice president & senior risk officer, said “Jason is a pragmatist, and we are pleased he accepted our invitation. It gives our students, sponsors and partnering institutions a chance to hear from and understand what regulators are thinking and saying about them.”

The institute is a partnership between the Agricultural Lenders Society of California and the Craig School of Business. This year’s session will have participants representing more than 18 states. As the premier trainer for ag-lending professionals, the institute’s goal is to develop effective leaders in all aspects of agricultural finance.

Among co-sponsors of the Institute are Bank of the West, Rabobank, FarmerMac, Baird and Holm LLP, Central Valley Community Bank, Stoel Rives LLP, Prudential and Fresno Madera Farm Credit.
