The 12th annual LUNAFEST film festival comes to Fresno State 7-9 p.m.  Nov. 9, at the Satellite Student Union.

LUNAFEST highlights woman leaders through nine short films made by, for and about women. The films range from fictional drama to animation, with subjects that include motherhood, body image and breaking barriers.

A list of the films is available at Luna Fest.

A portion of the proceeds from LUNAFEST will go to the Breast Cancer Research Fund, which supports research on the environmental factors linked to breast cancer. The fund focuses on breast cancer prevention by decreasing exposure to harmful chemicals and radiation linked to the disease.

“Discovering the chemicals and products that endanger us is the first step to reducing breast cancer,” said Jenny Whyte, coordinator of the Women’s Resource Center at Fresno State. The center is hosting the film festival and is a partial recipient of the event’s proceeds.

LUNAFEST was created in 2000 by LUNA, the maker of a whole nutrition bar for women. The film festival’s goal is to partner with communities around the country and connect women, their stories and causes through films. It has raised more than $1.2 million for the Breast Cancer Research Fund and local women’s non-profit organizations.

The event at Fresno State is co-sponsored by University Student Union Productions and LUNA.

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $5 for Fresno State Students (with valid Fresno State ID). Tickets can be purchased at the event, online at www.lunafest.org or at the Fresno State Women’s Resource Center, Thomas Building, Room 110.
