The benefits of international education will be celebrated with lectures, panel discussions and performances on the Fresno State campus Nov. 13-17.

Sponsored by the Division of Continuing and Global Education, Study Abroad and International Exchanges, American English Institute, International Student Services and Programs, and USU Productions, International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education designed to highlight programs that help Americans gain global experience.

“International engagement is critical for our students looking to compete in today’s global economy,” said Lynnette Zelezny, Associate Vice President of Continuing and Global Education and Associate Provost. “During International Education Week we can engage with the community about international issues, while highlighting the many global programs available for Fresno State students.”

Thursday, Nov. 15 the public is encouraged to attend two lectures from leading international experts.

Former Mexican consul Martha Rosas will speak about the role of the Mexican Consulate in the United States at 1 p.m. in the University Student Union, room 312-314. During the lecture, Rosas will discuss the history of consulates, how they began and their legal constraints.

At 3 p.m. in the same room, Glen Roberts, Director of U.S. Commercial Service for Bakersfield and Fresno, International Trade Administration, will offer valuable information for entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses overseas. Roberts will discuss exporting services provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce and other Federal agencies. He will also explain how to find international buyers for products, services and technologies.

International Education Week will culminate at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 with the 29th annual International Culture Night at Fresno State’s Satellite Student Union.
